The Creation of Colour: A Focus on Paint Technologies

Posted August 20, 2024

Working closely with our clients to bring their ideas to life, our Paint Technologies team ensures all projects are completed to the highest standards. Using their skills and experience they utilise the latest technologies to deliver the best possible result. Our team works to develop and deliver paint colours, finishes, and textures for everything from prototypes and show models to bespoke products and paint swatches.

Developing paint from a reference

With our in-house paint mixing systems, we can create completely unique, bespoke paint colours. We have capabilities in-house to colour match from a swatch, objects, pantones, and any production paint code formulas, using AkzoNobel Colour Scheme. This means we can meet our clients’ exact requirements for their projects.

Paint Finishes

Our team has the capability to develop a variety of finishes to suit your project. Once the colour is developed, a range of effects can be applied including pearlescent finish, chromaflair finishes, fine flakes, coarse flakes, or just a solid finish. We offer spray chrome, textured paint, and special effects such as graduated paint.

Envisage Colour of the Year

The Envisage Colour of the Year paint was developed in house from the Pantone reference #2C2D65. From this, we have applied a wide range of finishes to show the versatility of Blurple. This includes a chromaflair with a green shift, emphasising how Blurple can be a fun, energetic colour.  A soft touch paint was also developed, giving the rich colour a velvet look, and enhancing the luxurious side of Blurple. Paints with a satin finish, fine flakes and coarse flakes were also developed to show how the colour is adaptable to different contexts.

CASE STUDY: Model 01: The Couch

For Model 01: The Couch, the paint was selected to enhance the materials used for the trim. The Paint Team worked closely with our CMF Design Team to prepare a paint with fine, warm flakes and a satin finish. This ties together the hues of brown in the Scabal fabric, metal hardware, and cork.

CASE STUDY: The Lynk & Co Show Car

The Lynk & Co Next Day show car is one of the most futuristic projects Envisage have worked on to date. The brief given to our paint technologies was for the front to look like golden sun and the rear to be midnight sky. Our paint team developed several colours to present to the client that fit the brief given. This resulted in thirteen different paint mixes being developed with ratios that provided a graduation from gold at the front of the vehicle to blue at the back. Each colour was sprayed into the next to give the desired effect throughout the vehicle, bringing the clients vision to life.

The Paint Technologies Team

Our paint team has experience across multiple sectors, working on show properties, prototypes, and bespoke projects for OEMs across the automotive, aerospace, lifestyle, and other transportation & mobility sectors. Our clients require the highest level of quality, so our team have the highest standards, work to tight tolerances, and have a keen eye for detail to meet our clients’ expectations.
